North Ave. & American Ave. Revival Projects
Let’s Keep Fresno’s Economy Moving
State Route 99 plays a pivotal role as a major transportation corridor for residents and businesses in Fresno. Two interchanges, vital to Fresno’s economy and the region’s movement of people, goods and services, have not been updated since first constructed in 1965.
The proposed South Fresno State Route 99 Corridor Project will provide critical safety and traffic flow improvements for interchanges at North Avenue and American Avenue.
Reconstructing and expanding these nearly 60-year-old interchanges at the north and south end of one of Fresno’s most important business districts will support an area of the city with more than 400 businesses, 22,000 full-time jobs and $13 billion in economic activity. Additionally, these interchange improvements will allow for easier access to residences and businesses located in the area.
The Project Will:
Reduce traffic congestion along a main arterial of Highway 99
Facilitate a smoother flow of traffic through the interchanges
Lessen near-term vehicle emissions
Reduce traffic accidents and collisions
Include wider shoulders to accommodate bicycles
Build sidewalks, curbs, gutters, lighting and signalization, and stormwater system
Continued investment in Fresno’s infrastructure and community shows a local and statewide commitment to economic development and growth throughout the region, helping to ensure that Fresno can thrive for generations to come.
